Learning
Log
Thai
students usually face with educational problems such as English learning
problem or average of decreased O-net. These problems come from
many causes especially, traditional teaching method. Some teachers teach only
vocabulary, phonetics, or grammar in the class. In addition, teachers like to
teach students using descriptive teaching or not focusing on students-centred.
Students never get opportunity to practice speaking and listening skills as
CLT. When they have only knowledge about vocabulary or grammar, they cannot
apply English in the real life situations. Teachers should know students’
learning styles before providing lesson. Therefore, good teaching comes from
planning good lesson plan. Teachers should think of students’ background
knowledge such as low, inter-mediated or advanced. In this section, I would like
to announce about good lesson plan for teaching Thai students in EFL/ESL
students.
Good
lesson plan should be related to students’ ability. Teachers may know students’ learning style as
first by asking some questions or allowing them to do test. Teachers do lesson
plan based on standard and indicator available with students’ grade. Teachers
should provide authentic materials to teach students easy to understand.
Moreover, teachers should plan and end up the lesson in the class appropriated
with time. However, some lesson may not end up in the class, so teachers should
prepare the lesson for next class. English teaching is subject that teachers can
apply to other subjects. There are History, Mathematics, Economics, etc.
Besides good lesson plan, teachers should apply several teaching method for
teaching students in the EFL/ESL classroom such as CLT (Communicative Language
Teaching), CLT (Cultural Language Teaching) or teaching both of them.
Conclusion,
good teaching comes from good lesson plan. Good lesson plan is caused by focusing on
standard and indicator available on students’ ability or level. If teachers
teach students who are low ability, they have to teach easy to more difficult
lesson. If teachers teach students with advanced level, they have to provide
lesson more difficult than students with low level. Likewise, teachers should
teach students using CLT coupled with cultural teaching. Students are taught to
speak and write as well as the native speakers. Teachers should allow them to
learn both inside and outside the classroom. Inside classroom, teachers allow
students learn in pair or group works or learn by student-centred. Outside classroom,
teachers have students learn by themselves about macro skills. In my opinion,
good teachers should be good at planning lesson plan before providing lesson
coupled with applying CLT into the EFL/ESL classroom for teaching Thai
students. What is your idea? How?
