Learning Log: On June 24 th, 2013
Presentation is
way to practise speaking English. Speaking
skill always be related to using thinking skill. Before presentation, you
should search new information on several websites and summarize it in your own
words. In addition, when you copy other tasks or ideas, you have to do
references for referring to head writers. Today, there are presentation on five
topics namely vocabulary teaching, teaching English using ICT, culture
teaching, Communicative Language Teaching and pronunciation.
Vocabulary teaching is related to teaching students to understand
vocabularies in context. It
is not only teaching them to remember vocabularies. For instance, you teach
them about New Year Day, you should guide them to search information by
themselves on Internet. After that, the teacher tells students to find new
difficult vocabularies from the context and meaning of them. Then students get
finished, the teacher can teach them what function of each word is and apply
teaching present simple tense to these vocabularies. After students understand
how to use structures of using present simple tense, the teacher allows them to
make up sentences by using vocabularies in which they find.
Culture teaching is related to teaching English and inserting culture
together. The teacher should teach students
to know how to live, how to dress up, what they eat, how their live is, etc. At
the present, the teacher should teach students to gain knowledge about culture
of ten countries in ASEAN community. The teacher can use these teaching
strategies to teach students to understand culture, including discussion, do activities in the large group,
role-playing, mini-drama, educational travel and using CALL lesson.
Pronunciation teaching is teaching students to understand a goal
of speaking as native speakers. A
more practical approach is to aim for “listener- friendly pronunciation” (Kjellin 1998). There
are many teaching steps such as warmer, listening, focus, pronunciation and
practice. The teacher has to teach students to gain knowledge about pronunciation,
phonetics, speaking out, listening and accuracy accents. Pronunciation is related
to four skills of English: listening, speaking, reading and writing.
Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) or Communicative approach
is way to teach students in communication with the others. CLT, there are five steps to teach
students, including warm-up, presentation, practice,
production and wrap-up. The teacher
teaches students to communicate through interaction in the target language. The
teacher allows students to educational travel outside the classroom for
communicating with foreigners at several places such as hotels, restaurants,
shopping place, beach or the national park. For example, using ‘The National Park Service” as the classroom at
America, the teacher can allow students to learn new experiences
about science subject as authentic materials and it is easier to recognize
something.
Today, Aj. Anirut also guide students to summarize what we
learned into chart, including belief for teaching, curriculum, course,
syllabus, lesson plan and standard/ indicator. Then
students understand about this chart, he gives students some homework: writing syllabus in these topics-local, regional, global and glocal
that comes from combination of global & local. In this
homework is composed of topic/ what to teach, vocabulary, grammar/ pronunciation,
skills/ function (task), 3A5S and how much time to teach such as 2 hours.
Today, I gain both teaching approach and homework. I think I can apply what I
have learned in this class to do lesson plan for teaching students being good
at English as native speakers.
