Chatting with Foreigners is NOT only Homework!
Greeting is the first sentence that people
always talk together. Both
speaking face to face in real life and on social network are important for starting
to say something. For example, friends say “what’s up man?” or students say
with teachers or the others that “How do you do?” “How is it going?” “How have
you been?” “Hey!” “Hi!” “Morning” Today, I chat with a teacher who taught me in
Culture teaching and Drama subjects at NSTRU. What we chat is general topic as
greeting, or asking for something. Chatting on social network is one way to talk
with foreigners or people who speak English as fair or good. There are various
topics that I chat together with him such as what favorite food he like to eat,
tip for practice listening skill and learn Thai language from me.
While I greet him that “Evening teacher”, he is eating Pizza. He
tells me he can chat and eat it in the same time. Eating Pizza is starting to
ask him “What favorite food would you like to eat?” He says he likes to eat
chicken, but he does not like to eat beef and pork. He says both beef and pork
are not good for her body. In addition, he eats Pizza for meal two times a
week. He prefers chatting on Facebook than phoning to someone. He
advises me for practice listening skill by starting to watch Sesame Street. It’s
for kids, but the speaking is slow and they pronounce so perfect.
It also is easy to understand. He tells me when I talk with foreigners by face
to face “You must be so confident and don’t be afraid that they don’t
understand what you say.” I ask him “Can you speak Thai?” He says he can say
short word not be sentences. I ask him again “Do you want to learn speaking
Thai?” After that, I teach him basic sentence in Thai accent with meaning in
English. Coon Pen Krai means “Who are you?” as example. He says Penkrai is new
for him. He also tells chatting for homework is funny. I enjoy chatting with my
teacher.
Chatting
for homework is
not important.
From
sentence I said, it means we can chat with anyone, anytime and anywhere when we
are free. If we think chatting is only homework given by the teacher, we can’t
learn new thing about using English. If we want to good at English, we must practise
practise and practise because learning English is focused on repeat in practice.
Learning English is related to find new experience in order to connect with
others especially foreigners both in Thailand and overseas. We should chat with
foreigners or talk with them in real life as usual. Don’t dare to speak or don’t
have anything to say with foreigners are sentences that Thai people usually say.
In my opinion, I ever feel like this, but now I try to be confident for chatting
with foreigners or people who can use English as good. If you are shy for
talking by face to face, you can use social network; Facebook, twitter, line
and the others to chat with them. Do you dare to speak with foreigners? If not!
